How Our Lodi Solar Company Can Help You

At SunMade® Energy, we make going solar simple, seamless, and stress-free, from your first quote to final inspection. Lodi is different from the rest of the Valley, and a design that works in Fresno or Stockton will not work here. Lodi Electric Utility is a municipal utility, so the state’s NEM 3.0 rules do not apply. Its net metering program closed to new solar customers in September 2017. New systems go on the Energy Purchase Credit program instead, where power you export is bought back at a posted rate that is set annually and is well below what you pay for electricity. What that means in practice is simple: in Lodi, the value of your system comes almost entirely from the power you use yourself, not from what you send to the grid. We design around that, sizing to your actual twelve-month usage rather than a rule of thumb, and modeling storage where it earns its place. Our in-house team handles permitting and Lodi Electric’s interconnection paperwork through installation and system activation.

Why Choose Our Lodi Solar Company

Before moving forward with your solar installation, here are a few key factors to consider to ensure your home is a great fit for solar energy.
Lodi Rules, Not State Rules

Lodi Electric Utility sets its own solar terms as a municipal utility. Net metering closed to new systems in 2017, and the Energy Purchase Credit program applies instead, at a rate the city updates each fiscal year. Any installer quoting you NEM 3.0 numbers is quoting the wrong market.

Self-Consumption Is Everything

Because exported power earns the EP credit rate rather than retail, the system that saves you the most is the one sized to match what you actually use, when you use it. Oversizing does not pay for itself here the way it might elsewhere.

Sizing From Real Usage

We build the design from your twelve-month usage history. If your consumption is set to grow, from an EV or a heat pump, Lodi Electric allows customers to add panels to an existing system later, so we plan for that rather than guessing high up front.

Roof Condition & Orientation

Your roof should be in good condition. South-facing slopes at a 15 to 40 degree pitch maximize production in the Central Valley, though we can install high-performing systems on a variety of roof types and slopes. Asphalt shingle, metal, and concrete tile all work well; wood shake and certain flat roofs need extra evaluation.

Check Your Electrical Panel

Many older Lodi homes have 100-amp panels that need upgrading to 200 amps before solar can be safely installed, since the National Electrical Code requires solar to connect through a dedicated circuit. We assess this during your consultation so there are no surprises later.

Certified & Accredited

SunMade® is the Central Valley's first and only Diamond Certified roofing, solar, and electrical contractor, five years running, with a 98% Customer Loyalty and 100% Helpful Expertise rating. We are also CSLB triple certified, a Tesla Energy certified installer, GAF and Owens Corning certified, a FranklinWH certified installer, a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association, BBB accredited, and Forbes recommended.

OUR SERVICES

Everything Our Lodi Solar Company Does for Your Home

Solar is where most Lodi homeowners start, but your roof, your storage, and your system’s long-term performance matter just as much. Because we are licensed for solar, roofing, and electrical work, one team handles all of it.

Solar Installation

Cut your electricity bills, increase your property value, and lock in long-term energy savings. We design a custom system around your Lodi home's energy needs, roof condition, and sun exposure, sized to Lodi Electric's requirements and your real usage history. Our in-house team handles permitting and interconnection paperwork through installation and system activation, and every install is covered by our 25-year Solar Shield Warranty.

Home Battery Backup

Storage matters more in Lodi than in most of California. Because exported power earns the Energy Purchase Credit rate rather than retail, every kilowatt-hour you store and use yourself is worth more than one you send to the grid. A battery also keeps essential systems running automatically when the grid goes down. Lodi Electric requires storage inverters to disconnect from the grid during an outage and stay off until utility voltage returns, which is standard and something we handle in the design. We are a certified installer for Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Batteries, and FranklinWH whole-home backup.

Roofing

Your roof protects everything underneath it, so a replacement should give you decades of confidence, not just new shingles. If your roof needs replacement within the next ten years, coordinating it with solar means one mobilization instead of two, a single permitting process, and unified warranty coverage across both systems. Our certifications with Owens Corning and GAF let us offer extended manufacturer warranties covering materials and labor for up to 50 years.

Maintenance & Repairs

Protect the investment you have already made. Dust, pollen, bird droppings, and Central Valley air pollution can reduce panel efficiency by up to 25%, so we clean panels using safe, non-abrasive methods and spot-free deionized water. Our certified technicians repair all major solar brands including Enphase, SolarEdge, and Tesla, whether or not we installed your system, and our in-house crews handle roof repairs from emergency leaks to long-term wear.

FAQ

Have Any Questions?

No. The Net Billing Tariff, commonly called NEM 3.0, was approved by the California Public Utilities Commission and applies to customers of PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E. Lodi Electric Utility is a municipal utility and sets its own terms.

Not for a new system. Lodi Electric closed its net metering program to new solar customers in September 2017 after it reached full subscription. Systems already on that program stay on it for 20 years from their original interconnection date, and the benefit transfers to a new owner if the home is sold.

Power you draw from the grid is billed at Lodi Electric’s regular retail rate. When your system produces more than your home is using at that moment, the excess is sold back to Lodi Electric at the posted Energy Purchase Credit rate, which the city sets annually for the July through June fiscal year. Because that credit rate is lower than the retail rate you pay, using your own production directly is where the value is. We review the current rate with you during your consultation.

Start by asking whether the company has designed systems under Lodi Electric’s rules specifically. Beyond that, look at who performs the work and who stands behind it. SunMade® uses no subcontractors, only licensed in-house crews handling solar, roofing, and electrical, and we hold all three CSLB licenses required for that kind of work. We are the only Diamond Certified® solar contractor based in the Central Valley, and our 25-year Solar Shield Warranty covers all workmanship and solar penetrations.

Lodi Electric does not currently offer rebates for solar installation. We will walk you through what does apply to your project.

Not for homeowners who purchase their own system. The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit under Section 25D cannot be claimed for expenditures made after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats an expenditure as made when the original installation is completed, so a system finished in 2026 does not qualify even if the contract was signed earlier. Talk to your tax professional about your specific situation.

Not if your system qualifies in time. California excludes an active solar energy system from property tax reassessment, and that exclusion becomes inoperative on January 1, 2027. Under SB 710, signed in October 2025, systems that qualify before that date keep the exclusion until the home changes ownership. This applies statewide regardless of which utility serves you. Because permitting and interconnection take time, a Lodi project needs to start well ahead of the deadline.

One matched to your real consumption. Because exported power earns the EP credit rate rather than retail, a system sized well beyond your usage does not pay back the way it would under full net metering. We build the design from your twelve-month usage history, and Lodi Electric allows customers to add panels to an existing system later if your needs grow.

Possibly. The National Electrical Code requires solar installations to connect through a dedicated circuit, and many older homes have 100-amp panels that need upgrading to 200 amps first. We check this during your site assessment.

Yes. SunMade® specializes in coordinating roof replacements and solar installations in one seamless project. It is more efficient, more cost-effective, and it ensures your new roof is solar-ready from day one.
